How to engrave a hard wood with 10W laser engraver

  • The laser engraver is a perfect match for small parts in the workshop or in the office. It is easy to set up, and it can be used with little technical knowledge.

    What is a Laser engraver?

A laser engraver is a device that uses high-power lasers to burn in various images, text and designs into materials such as wood, acrylics, leather and more. The process of engraving is achieved by either cutting or burning the material using computer-controlled lasers that are focused on a very precise point on the surface of your material.

In order to use one of these machines you will need:

    • A suitable piece of material for engraving (wooden boards)
    • A power supply (AC 110/230V 50/60Hz)

    How to make the engraving

There are three power settings for engraving wood with the laser engraver, low, medium and high.

    • Low power is best for shallow engravings and delicate surfaces.
    • Medium power is best for medium depth engravings on most types of hardwood.
    • High power is ideal for deep engravings on very hard woods like teak or rosewood.

    Tools on the Laser engraver

You will need the following tools:

    • laser engraver
    • A cutting machine (jig saw)
    • Screwdriver or chisel
    • Sandpaper of various grits (coarse, medium, fine)
    • Drill with a 3/16" bit and 1/8" bit. To make a hole for your screws to go into.

    Results

The results of our tests were as follows:

    • The engraving was clean, but not deep.
    • The engraving was not very large in size. It was difficult to fit more than one line on the test piece at once, due to its thickness and small size.
    • The engraving did not have great precision; some parts weren’t etched as deeply as others, so they came out lighter in color than other parts of the same letter or number. This might be because we used a lower power setting than recommended in the manual (which is listed below). However, if you increase your laser power by 1-2 levels above what’s recommended for hardwood, you should still get good results – just make sure that you don't go over four levels beyond what's recommend!
    • This laser isn't fast at all; it takes many seconds per line if your material is thick enough to require multiple passes with this machine's 10W output power level setting (for example: if your material is 3mm thick). For example: If someone wants an "I love my cat" sentiment engraved on their wooden desk set using this machine's default settings (10W), then it would take about 2 minutes just for one pass through each letter/number! You will also need another minute per pass because after every couple lines are engraved into wood there needs time before starting again since otherwise smoke will build up inside from burning plastic being melted by high temperatures created by laser light hitting against surface area when operating at high intensity levels such as these ones set up here during testing purposes only - never use them yourself unless instructed otherwise by someone knowledgeable about lasers like myself who knows exactly what kind of risks exist when working with them safely :) !

2 10W laser power engravers Atomstack a10 pro and Sculpfun S10

The Atomstack a10 pro is the most popular and best value for money, it offers professional capabilities in an affordable package. It’s a good choice if you want to get into laser engraving without breaking the bank, while still being able to produce high-quality results.

The Atomstack a10 pro comes with an adjustable focus lens and an air assist system that makes it easy to use. It also has a built-in fan for cooling, which is useful for preventing overheating during long jobs. The laser tube is rated at 10 watts, which means it has a lot of power but still runs fairly quietly. The machine can engrave on wood, plastic and acrylic with no problem.

This is the second of a two-part tutorial on how to use a 10W laser engraver. In this video tutorial, you'll learn about the SCULPFUN S10 Laser Engraver, one of our top sellers here at Dremel and an excellent choice for anyone who wants to get started with wood engraving. The SCULPFUN S10 Laser Engraver has 10W of power and is perfect for medium-sized projects that don't require too much detail work or precision. It's small enough that you can easily move it around your workspace (or take it with you), but large enough that it won't feel like a toy! It also has adjustable speed settings so you can control how quickly or slowly your project moves along as well as its maximum cutting depth into wood materials such as MDF boards. It comes with several accessories including different sized tips so users can choose which type works best for them (we recommend using one larger than normal).
