This is its third International digital edition, the Guardian is definitely a heavy weight in not only International media but also the digital/online landscape.
However, as an Australian focused media it is the new kid on the block that has rich roots and a long history of Fairfax and Murdoch newspapers.
Recent Nielsen figures show that more than 1.1 million Australians are already regular readers of the Guardian (see here: there relentless reporting about the News of the World phone hacking scandal, and their awesome digital content).
While some have welcomed the Guardian launching an Australian digital edition with open arms, others have not. Reid compared the Guardian Australia to the "now defunct Australian Playboy".
Reid said, "Why do I need an Australian version of The Guardian when I can have the Fleet Street version."
He raises a good point.
The Guardian is owned by the Scott Trust, it was created in 1936 to "safeguard the journalistic freedom and liberal values of the Guardian.
Its core purpose is to secure the financial and editorial independence of the Guardian in perpetuity".
