The secret to a good resume.

    1. Change the font
Change the font of your resume to Helvetica, Arial, or Times New Roman — in other words, it should be easy to read (and it shouldn't be a standard Calibri). Using a simple, relevant font may not make your resume the most beautiful, but it will make it more readable (and it is less likely to be rejected by automatic recruitment systems).

    2. Delete the phrase " Recommendations are available on request»
If they want to see the recommendations, they will ask for them! It is better to use the free space to add detailed information about your abilities or achievements.

    3. Delete the "career goal" item.»
The boring boilerplate phrase "I'm a hardworking professional who wants to work in the [ ... ] industry" is so obvious — why else would you send a resume? - and takes up valuable space.

    4. Check your spelling
... and correct the errors found.

    5. Save your resume correctly
Save your resume in PDF format, if you have it in some other format. Then the formatting will not go wrong when the file is opened on another computer. (However, there are exceptions to this rule.)

    6. Change the file name
Change the file name from "Resume" to " [First Name] [Last Name] Resume " - this simplifies the work of HR managers and ensures that your resume is not lost in the crowd.

    7. Delete your email address
If you're not a local, recruiters may not read on. If you are local, they can calculate the time it will take you to get to work, and refuse you if they think it will be too long.

    8. Add a profile in social networks
Instead of the address, add a link to your LinkedIn profile, as well as any other relevant links to social networks (Twitter, if it is related to professional activities, Instagram or Flickr, if you are applying for a creative position). Caution: Never give a link to a Facebook profile, even if you think it is crystal clear.

Don't want to insert an ugly LinkedIn URL into your resume? And you don't need to. Create a custom URL for your public profile using your name (or something similar if someone has already taken your name). LinkedIn has instructions on how to do this.

    9. Make all hyperlinks clickable
Your resume is likely to be read on a computer, so clickable links to your email address, social profiles, and personal websites will help the recruiter learn more about you.

    10. Delete not the most important data
Omit any references to date of birth, marital status, or religious beliefs. Since it is illegal to select employees on these grounds, employers have no right to demand them (and their mention makes you look slightly ignorant).

    11. Delete the year of graduation
If you received your degree more than three years ago, delete the year of graduation. Recruiters only need to know that you have a degree, so don't give them an extra opportunity to discriminate against you by age.

    12. Move the education information
Make a small rearrangement and move the education data below the work experience. If you are not a recent graduate, then a couple of recent jobs will play a more important role in getting a new position.

    13. Make your resume more readable
To improve readability, increase the line spacing (also called interlining) to at least 120% of the font size. To do this in Word, select Format and Paragraph. In the drop-down list in the "Line spacing" section, select "Exact" and set the spacing two points higher than the font size (for example, 12 if the font is 10).

    14. Reduce the margins
Need a little more space? You can reduce the upper and lower margins to 13 mm, and the side margins to 20 mm. This way your resume will remain pleasant and easy to read, and you will get more opportunities to talk about your advantages.

    15. Don't think about school
Delete everything related to high school, unless you graduated from college this year, or you need to fill out your resume, or you did something very important (and amazing) while in high school.

    16. Update the skills section
Add all the new skills you've gained and remove what's a little outdated (no one wants to see you have experience with Microsoft Word — that goes without saying).

    17. Break the skills into groups
If you have many skills that are suitable for a given position — say, foreign languages, software, and leadership skills-try breaking them down into groups and describing each one separately ("Language Skills" or "Software Skills").

    18. Double check the formatting
Make sure that the formatting is the same throughout the resume. All headings should be in the same style, all margins should be in the same line, all marker points should match, and so on. Your style should not look sloppy!

    19. Remove the shrink
Catch all abbreviations and write the full name of the position, certification, or organization. You should use both options at least for the first time, so that the recruiter can understand what you are talking about, and the recruitment system responds, regardless of what format it is looking for.

    20. Get rid of distracting design
If you're not a designer and don't present a carefully crafted creative resume, remove the photos and visuals. In a more traditional resume, they usually only distract from the available information (and can confuse automatic candidate search systems).
