The seventh generation of the original hot hatch is here and the all new 227bhp VW Golf GTI promises to be a corker.
VW is showing the production ready Golf GTI at Geneva 2013. Not much has changed since its Paris 2012 debut in 'concept' form and it's no disappointment. The GTI comes in two states of tune for the first time; the 'standard' cars all new four-cylinder turbo boasting 217bhp while the tweaked car gets bragging rights and an extra 10bhp. The boosted car is aimed at the punter who wants something a little shaper and also gets an LSD and bigger brakes. The 0-62 dash is dispatched in 6.5 seconds for the standard car and 6.4 seconds for the beefed up version. Both versions are more environmentally conscious than the MK6 GTI, returning 47mpg and 139g/km with manual, 43.5mpg and 44.1mpg plus 148g/km & 149g/km with optional DSG 'box.
Usual GTI trinkets are here too; new kerb-friendly (not...) 18" Austin alloys, side skirts, rear diffuser, twin pipes and tartan interior all accounted for. We can't wait to drive it in June
