What is going on in China and how to start business there

  • China is a massive country, and they have some massive problems.  Their economy is in a crazy state where the poor are staying poor and the rich are getting richer.  Then you have the terrible environmental issues where they are way above the safe limits of toxins in the air.  Also, I've read about some disgusting things they do to animals for the sake of traditional medicines.  They have a crazy older generation that thinks these traditional methods of medicines like using fluids from living animals will cure things, when we know that it won't.  It disgusts me, and hopefully the older generation that still uses these products die off so they can stop torturing animals.

Regardless of the facts above, China is the fastest growing economy in the world. New businesses open every day and even BMW has a factory there for local market.

Probably every piece of equipment you have is at least partially or fully manufactured in China. Labor is cheap, prices are down and if you are able to set up good quality control, nothing in the world can stop you from becoming successful.

Before you consider starting any imports from China, I suggest you do spend time and visit actual manufacturing plant. Put on your schedule more, often the mfg next door might be as good or even better.

Keep in mind, that any business you do with China will require you to full payment in advance, so get your cash ready :-)

Ideally, you want to whitelabel your product - come up with a compelling brand in your niche and order a good packaging designs. One of the biggest success I've had in China are LED bulbs. Cheap, reliable and, if marketed properly, are today's next big thing with the electricity prices going up.

I've done a lot of research on how China gets away with these terrible things, and it's really due to their government's lack of regulations.  A lot of companies are taking advantage of their cheap labor and are figuring out how to import from China to Australia or to any first world country like the U.S or anywhere in Europe.  They make products for pennies and then sell them for 100x the mark up and make crazy profits.
