The word "Umrah" derived from the word "Itamar" which was taken by the Arabic language. The first time, it was done at the time of Sulah Hudaibiya by Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and his 10,000 followers. Therefore, it is a Sunnah and He (PBUH) performed it 4 times in his whole life. It consists of 4 rites which starts from wearing Ihram and ending after cutting or shaving hairs. Individuals travel to the centre of the world (Kaaba) to complete this holy journey. Going to Makkah activity of pilgrims continue whole year except for Hajj days but if one has the intention to perform a Hajj al-Qiran then he/she is free from the time limit.
4 parts of Umrah:
Ihram
Tawaf
Sa'i
Halq/Taqsir
Ihram:
Ihram is a simple dress that shows his/her submission before God. There are some precautions to wear which is a serious matter. This serious matter does not end here, rather our precautions end after performing the last ritual.
There are 5 meeqats to wear Ihram, which welcome the people from all around the world whether they come from the USA or UK, Asia or Africa, the Middle East or Australia, etc.
But if you have reached in Makkah any other reason and now you are making a plan to perform Umrah then you don't need to go these above 5 meeqats, because there are 3 more nearest meeqats only for Makkah residents.
Ihram is a simple dress but it is different for men and women. Men wear two unstitched white colours in which one covers the upper part and second covers the lower part of the body.
Women can wear stitched clothes in any colour because ladies are free from Ihram dress shape or colour. They can wear routine life dress but the selection of western cultures clothes (pants, skirts, shirt etc.) is not valid.
Tawaf:
Seven times moving around the Kaaba is called Tawaf but this ritual has some precautions.
It starts from point of Hajre Aswad, sometimes touching or kissing directly can't possible for a person then gesturing with hands toward Hajre Aswad is enough. Covering 4 circles' distance of Tawaf with fastly and doing others with normal speed is for males.
Women don't need to complete it with fast speed but they should complete it at a normal speed. They should keep themselves away from men while walking around the Kaaba.
After the end of this ritual, pilgrims drink the water Zamzam and offering two nafls behind of Maqam e Ibrahim.
Sai:
Seven times moving back and forth between Safa and Marwa is called Sa'i. Men do it speedily whereas women do it normally. This activity of Umrah related to the story of Bibi Hajrah (ra) and Hazrat Ismail (as). It started when Prophet Ibrahim (as) left his son and wife in the desert of Makkah near Kaaba. After the ending of water and food source, the little son started to cry and the mother tried to search for water for her son. But unfortunately, despite running between Safa and Marwa, she did not find any source of water.
Allah Almighty sent the angel Gabriel to the earth to quench the thirst of the child, then the angel stumbled on the ground with his wings under the feet of Ishmael and a fountain burst there. Bibi Hajra (RA) called Zamzam to stop the water.
Halq/Taqsir:
Halq means shaving entirely head and Taqsir means cutting hair for a short length. Men have two (Halq & Taqsir) choices to perform the last ritual but women have only one choice that is Taqsir. But Men should perform the last ritual by using Halq because it is a sunnah.
It is true, doing Umrah is a little bit expensive due to many reasons but if you go to any travel agency to get Umrah Package for completing Umrah trip then your choice is best.
