How to remove the yellowness of hair after dyeing or lightening

  • Light curls are always in trend: they refresh the appearance, look stylish and attractive. Therefore, coloring in blond is the most popular procedure among women of all ages. But when lightening them, unpleasant side effects often lie in wait - the paint is washed off, and a yellow color appears on the hair. To preserve the beauty of the hairstyle, you have to look for ways to remove the inappropriate shade that spoils the impression of coloring.

    If your hair turned yellow after dyeing, do not despair. This is not the end of the world, but a natural process. Thus, an incompletely derived natural pigment appears - pheomelanin, which has a yellow-red color scheme. You can read more about the reasons for this phenomenon in the article “Why hair turns yellow after dyeing.” But you will know how to fix yellow hair. We will talk about the most effective ways to remove yellowness, and return a radiant look and elegant shade to curls, getting rid of unnecessary “special effects”.

    How to deal with yellow hair that appears after dyeing

    As we have already said, yellowed hair after lightening is not a marriage. On the contrary, this suggests that the staining was carried out extremely carefully, and the structure of the hairs was not disturbed.

    Therefore, in no case do not try to get rid of yellowness by re-painting, and achieving complete discoloration. This will damage your hair and turn it into a dry brittle "straw". Moreover, it is not a fact that the yellow color can be completely removed, but the fact that after re-staining the curls will have to be treated and restored for a long time is guaranteed.

    There are safer, and at the same time effective methods to neutralize the yellowness that appeared after clarification:

    • Toning. The procedure for toning is in many ways similar to staining. But instead of persistent permanent dyes, sparing tonics are used for its implementation. They are not able to radically change the color of the hair, but they can give them the desired shade and help get rid of yellowness. Tonics contain natural oils and caring natural ingredients, and significantly improve the condition of the hair, giving it a shiny, lush and healthy look.

    Also, tinting has protective and cumulative effects. Enveloping the hairs with a thin film, the tinting composition protects them from the effects of the external environment and washing out of the paint. Therefore, the absorbed pigments that neutralize the yellow color accumulate inside, and with each procedure its effect on the curls remains for a longer period.

    You can do toning at home, but it’s better to go to the salon to a qualified specialist. In order for the procedure to be successful and help to remove the yellow color that appeared after staining by 100%, many factors must be taken into account:

    • General condition of the hair;
    • The intensity of the shade of yellowness;
    • Original (natural) color;
    • The presence of gray hair and its quantity;
    • Paint used for coloring or lightening.

    Depending on this, the type of tonic is selected, its desired shade and the type of tinting: light, gentle or intense.

    • Blue and purple shampoos. You can successfully deal with the yellow color of bleached hair, if it does not appear too aggressively, on your own. To do this, after dyeing the curls in blond, you need to use specialized professional blue or purple shampoos. They neutralize yellowness well, subject to the following rules:
    • Immediately after bleaching, wash your hair with a minimal amount of "color" shampoo. Leave it on your hair for 2-3 minutes before rinsing off.
    • After a while, gradually increase the dose and exposure time (up to 10 minutes).
    • If your hair is just yellow after bleaching, choose a purple shampoo. And if orange or reddish (which is most often found after dyeing blond in dark-haired girls) - blue. These colors are located on opposite sides of the color wheel, and therefore completely neutralize each other.
    • Do not use blue-violet shampoos too often. To remove yellowness, about 1 time per week is enough. And in between, you can use the usual detergents for hair.

    Now you know the best way to remove yellow from bleached hair, and you can always keep your blond curls in perfect condition.
