It has already been more than a few months that we have not stepped out of our houses. However, the pandemic is only getting worse and the lockdown is not expected to be over any soon. At this point, we need to stay positive so we can fight the situation together. It is not easy to do when the world is facing such a crisis like the coronavirus. Everyone is surrounded by doom and gloom due to the news of death and ailment. However, there are ways you can try to stay positive during lockdown, such as – (Information credit: https://www.getsavvi.co.za/get-care)
1. Know your strength
Keep in mind that you are stronger than you think. It may be very easy to be engulfed in the helplessness brought by the pandemic, but you need to remain hopeful. Hope comes from your past resilience. Think about all the things that you have overcome in the past just by relying on your strength. If you did it before, then you can do it again. You have become stronger than before by facing those problems, and you can be even stronger by making it through this time.
2. Do not forget to laugh
Laughter is always helpful when you want to take your mind off of stressful things. You should never stop smiling and laughing because it makes you strong and cheerful from the inside. A great way to laugh in the lockdown is watching funny videos. While you are stuck at home with a lot of free time in your hands, you can use the internet to watch animal videos or any other funny video.
3. Help those who need it
Consider yourself extremely fortunate if your immune system is capable of putting up the fight against coronavirus. However, do not forget that there are people who are not as lucky as you. For some people, even going out to get groceries is difficult. You should help them at any chance you get because it will not only make them feel better but it will also help you stay positive by making yourself useful for other people.
4. Utilise your free time
We are so used to the busy lives of modern times, that being stuck at home with too much free time is very difficult for us. For most people, each day has become a question of how to spend the time effectively and not waste it lying around throughout the whole day. However, it is the perfect opportunity to do everything that you had to neglect until now due to the lack of time. Go back to an old hobby or pick up a new one. You should also take care of yourself as many of us also have the habit of neglecting ourselves and this lockdown can also affect that negatively. You need to understand that it is not a vacation but a time of crisis. So, making time for yourself and working on your inner growth can be helpful. You may also learn a new skill at the same time which can make you more confident.
5. Be kind to others
As we are isolated for a long time, frustration is getting to us and it is affecting our personality and behaviour. However, when you are rude to another person for no reason, it is also going to upset you later. To maintain positivity in your life, remember that you are not facing the problems alone but the whole world is going through this. So, respect others and be kind to them, whether it is your neighbour, colleague of delivery men.
6. Meditate regularly
Just a few minutes of medication can leave positive effects on your physical and mental being. If you are into meditation, then it is a great time to start. According to researches, medication can help to calm down your anxious racing minds. At the same time, it decreases stress and depressive feelings. To start, set up a comfortable and quiet space. You can meditate anytime, but a good time would be before going to bed or after waking up.
7. Stay connected to others
The feeling of isolation is the worst outcome of this lockdown. Healthy relationships with our loved ones are the key to our well-being. According to studies, positive and supportive relationships can produce more oxytocin which helps in boosting our immune system and healing physically quicker. It also helps us experience less anxiety, stress and depression. Now, although technology is often blamed to make us more socially isolated, it is the time when we need to depend on technology. You can stay connected to others through conversations on the phone, playing online games, and social media platforms. No matter how busy you are, do not forget to speak to at least two people every day.
We do not know when the solution of coronavirus will come, so, it is most likely that we will have to deal with the lockdown for some more time. So, do everything to stay positive so you can survive this crisis.
