  • The Speed Flip is a mechanic in Rocket League that has quickly gained popularity as a necessary skill to master in order to keep up with the best players at the highest levels of ranked competition or the professional scene. In this guide, players can learn how to perform the Speed Flip as well as how to Flip Cancel; this is a necessary step in order to comprehend the mechanic's set-up and function properly.

    What is a Speed Flip and how does it work?
    A Speed Flip is a more efficient way of flipping forward, and it will largely replace your standard front, diagonal, and side flips in most situations. In order for it to be performed, it must combine several inputs taken from the Flip Cancel mechanic.

    What is the purpose of using a Speed Flip?
    When the player flips the car forward, the player can only boost for a short period of time (while the Rocket League credits is facing the opposite direction). This is the general strategy for basic kick-offs, and it is as follows:The use of a boost while the car is pointing upward, downward, or backward will reduce your speed and alter your trajectory.

    Because of the Powerslide, the car can let go of its grip on the ground, and the forward diagonal left flip won't push the car as far to the side as it would otherwise. Aside from that, players can initially offset their car by Powersliding diagonally opposite to the direction in which they intend to Speed Flip. This is done in order to ensure that if the car does push sideways, it is technically traveling diagonally forwards and the boost pushes the car back into the middle (and onto the track).
    To counteract a left-sided Speed Flip, a player Powerslides to the right to change the direction of the flip.
    Keeping Powerslide held while moving the left stick in the Up-right direction (1 o'clock direction)
    Perform the standard left side speed flip after making a very slight turn to the left.

    Players will be performing a Square, X, X, Square button combo (Powerslide – Jump – Flip – Air Roll) while timing the left stick movements in the manner described previously. With practice, they will appear to be making a large anti-clockwise semi-circle rotation, which will give the impression that they are. It is still necessary to skip between steps three and four, however, in order to ensure that the Flip Cancel is properly registered.

    Powerslide out of the way

    To transfer, perform a speed flip near a wall.
    Immediately leap off the wall and dave-dash to the ground.
    On the ground, perform another speed flip.
    When using this drill, players should aim for a ball near the back wall to transfer it and then maintain their momentum to continue chasing after the ball up the field. When transferring, using a combination of Speed Flips and wave-dashes is the most effective way to chase in {anchor}.

    The Speed Flip Test is a type of agility test.
