Jayant Yadav Profile | Biography | Career

  • Jayant Yadav is a right-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler from India. In domestic cricket, he represents Haryana. In the Indian Premier League, Yadav has played for the Delhi Daredevils and the Mumbai Indians. He has also represented India at the international level. He has played four test matches and one one-day international so far.

    He's one of the few true all-round spin bowlers who can bowl both ways as well. Since the 2011 Ranji Trophy, Jayant has been outstanding and has gained the attention of the selectors.

    Lakshmi Yadav, Jayant Yadav's true mother, perished in a plane disaster. Jyoti Yadav, his stepmother, raised him and encouraged him to pursue a career in cricket.

    Jayant Yadav Career

    Despite being a Delhi native, Yadav debuted for Haryana in the Ranji Trophy at the age of 21. Haryana thrashed Gujarat's batting in that match, and he grabbed six wickets. Yadav has slowly but steadily established himself as one of India's greatest domestic players.

    Jayant Yadav has put in a lot of effort to develop his batting and bowling abilities. He has often proven himself to be one of India's top spin bowling all-rounders.

    Jayant transformed his first Ranji century into a spectacular double century. Against Karnataka, he scored an incredible 211 runs. His brilliant innings includes a record-breaking 392-run eighth-wicket partnership with leg-spin veteran Amit Mishra.

    He didn't let anyone down the next season, taking 33 wickets in the 2014-15 Ranji season. His squad benefited greatly from his 13 wickets in a single match against Saurashtra.

    Yadav could not be ignored for long due to his regular domestic results. He was selected for India A's match against South Africa and Bangladesh.

    International Career

    In 2016, he made his One-Day International (ODI) debut against New Zealand. Virender Sehwag presented him with his ODI cap, and he also took his first wicket in the match.

    In the same year, he made his test debut against England in a home series.

    Yadav has also proven to be a valuable all-rounder on the international stage. After his first four test innings, Jayant had an average of around 73. He also has a first and a hundred. With India's premier batsman and captain, Virat Kohli, he achieved the second-best record partnership of 241 for the eighth wicket. As Kohli hit his third double century, Yadav became the first Indian batsman to achieve a century at number nine.

    In the 2014 IPL, Delhi Daredevils paid Rs 10 lakhs for Jayant Yadav. He was a member of the team till 2018. As a rookie spinner, he made his debut against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

    Jayant's IPL performance has been mediocre, compared to his domestic first-class record. Despite this, he has made vital contributions to his team in IPL matches on multiple occasions.

    After the 2018 Indian Premier League season, he was traded to Mumbai Indians. In the 2018 edition of the IPL, he did not appear in a single match for the Delhi Capitals.
