Ritu phogat biography

  Mahavir Singh Phogat, Ritu's father, is a former wrestler. The Dronarcharya Awardee resigned from his position to devote all of his time and energy to raising his two daughters. Daya Kaur, her mother, is a housewife. Ritu phogat comes from a large family, with four sisters and two cousins. They are all professional wrestlers. Several members of the Phogat family have already been recognised for their achievements on the international stage. Dushyant Phogat, Ritu's only sibling, lives nearby.

  To see the Phogat sisters' inspiring journey in action was a joy to watch in Aamir Khan's Dangal. Ritu explained in an interview with The Hindu how well the film conveyed their storey without straying too far from the facts.

  Mahavir Singh Phogat, her coach and father, was a stern taskmaster. It was a challenge for the girls to come up with a variety of excuses to avoid the training session. However, they always worked hard in honour of their father's dedication. When it comes to Ritu's success, she gives him all the credit.

   

  Breaking Shackles

  It wasn't easy for the girls, especially in the beginning, despite their father's firm support and guidance. This family has defied the social norms of their village, which included the ritual killing of unborn girls.

  The patriarchs of the village resisted the family's efforts. They were all shunned because they defied social conventions. Mahavir Singh Phogat bravely continued to educate all of his daughters in the face of such adversity. His hard work has paid off, and it's clear to everyone.

  After Babita and Geeta's success, the village's perceptions began to shift. Villagers are now sending their daughters to the family for training as well as their adoration and encouragement.

  Some Facts

  • Ritu doesn't need any outside inspiration because she comes from a family of wrestling champions! Her role models are her sisters, cousins, and, of course, her father.
  • "Although both Geeta and Babita inspire me greatly, I look up to Geeta the most. She is a role model for many people. My other cousin sister, Vinesh, is about my age and weighs about the same as me. In that sense, you could say we're competing. We also practise together and are aware of each other's abilities and limitations. In an interview with The Hindu, she said, "Whenever I lose to her, I work harder because my father always says that whoever works harder will shine."
