Cuban Revolution

  • Cuban Revolution triggered important changes in the lives of Cuban people who deserved freedom from slavery and dictator’s regime no less than any other people in the world. I learned much information about Cuban Revolution during our class and would like to share my impressions and thoughts about this significant event. I will summarize the facts about this period of time and reflect on the movies and articles received in the class. I believe that it is one of the most important events in the history of Latin Americans, and it is worth the deepest attention and precise study and research https://millionessays.com/get-a-research-paper-for-sale.html

Cuba was a Spanish colony in the 19th century and seriously suffered from slavery. In 1868, Carlos Manuel de Cespedes rebelled, freed, and armed the slaves and this became the first of four revolutions of the Cuban Revolution. The war lasted for ten years, but it failed. The slaves became free only since 1886, but the United States still wanted to annex Cuba and started the Spanish-American war. The US won the war, and the occupation of Cuba began. After several years of being a neo-colony of the United Stated, Cuba developed it’s constitution in 1940. It got headed by the first after-constitution president Batista; his government was full of corruption that annoyed people. The people rebelled and the Orthodox Party was formed. The youth wing leader Fidel Castro supported Eddie Chibas who wanted reforms and improvement, but during the elections of 1952 Batista staged a militarized coup that sparked the revolution. The youth was strongly against the repressions, and Fidel gathered the army of 120 people to attack Moncada barracks in Santiago by surprise. However, they failed and partly were killed, partly imprisoned. It is hard to imagine that most of them were of my age and gave their lives for the idea that freedom is higher than anything else. The core of their dedication was formed by justice, idealism, and sacrifice. Fidel was not the only significant figure in the revolution. There were several groups of fighters each headed by its leader. The narrator of the documentary “The Forgotten Revolution” Rita Moreno says that there were two revolutions in many ways: one in the mountains headed by Castro and the other led by Frank Paisin Santiago. One of the movies about him is “David”. After watching the movies about this man and his “frank people”, I may say that he is a really willful person who is worth the warm and dedicated memories of his family, students, and historians. Moreover, he seems the most sympathetic figure in the revolution to me because of his strong idealistic thoughts and willing of democracy. For example, his student Tania de la Nuez says that Frank was the Teacher who taught children in Sunday school the understanding of democracy, the concept of justice, the value of truth, etc. Frank believed that every person was born for certain things in this life. His “thing” was to become an underground leader to fight the Batista regime. I believe that if he stayed alive until and after the moment the dictator’s ruling was over, Cuba might have saved lots of unfaithfully taken revolution souls. Although he is remembered less than Castro or Guevara, the example of his dedication and will is not inferior to their names.

To summarize all the information above and my attitude to the events that happened during the Cuban Revolution, I must say that every person played its significant and exact role in the uprising. The most unexpected thing for me was the aggression between the “Fidel’s guerrillas” from Sierra mountains and the Underground forces that were left after Pais’ death. “Frank people” could not accept Fidel as their one and only leader after defeating the Batista regime even though before that they both allied to fight evil. I think that the most powerful statement characterizing the spirit of the Cuban Revolution is the Che’s phrase “Hasta la victoria Siempre” (Until victory Al written on a poster in Santa-Clara where the remains of Guevara are buried. Anyway, it is important to remember the stamina and faith of those young people who gave their lives for freedom.
