In an effort to preserve the “purity” of the French language, France on Monday announced a ban on the use of English terms in gaming, replacing them with French terms. Popular gaming terms such as “esports”, “professional gamer” and “presenter” are currently used in English in France, but the culture ministry wants them all translated into French to make them easier for non-gamers to understand. The French government has unveiled a new French term for esports and cloud gaming, asking government workers to take the lead in using it. The French ministry of Culture has also asked experts to search gaming websites and the media for the use of the terms to help the French communicate better. This probably is the best way to learn French.
