FFXIV players make Gil through a variety of activities. These include crafting and farming. They can also get it through the Market Board and Treasure Maps.
The most consistent way to gain Gil is through leveling. This can be done through the main scenario quests, duties, and dungeons. Retainer Ventures can also be a great source of Gil.
Crafting
One of the best ways to make Gil in FFXIV is by crafting items. The demand for new gear, particularly at the start of a patch cycle, makes this method one of the most reliable for making money in FFXIV.
Likewise, a player's apartment is a good source of Gil, though it does have limitations (limited space, no access to cooking recipes). Players in a Free Company can also open a Private Chamber in their house for the same price and use that to sell Allagan Tomestones for Crystals or even Gold, assuming they have the necessary amount of Guild Marks.
Unlike WoW, which has several small Gil sinks like repairs and flights, FFXIV has a lot more methods specific to crafters and gatherers, including the ability to self-repair gear. The more efficient a crafter is, the more Gil they will earn.
Gathering
Most of the main ways to make Gil in FFXIV involve crafting or gathering. Those with the appropriate Jobs (Goldsmith, Alchemist, Culinarian) can create gear and consumables to sell in the Market Board.
While these items have little practical value, they can be a good source of Gil when sold in bulk. However, this method is only profitable if players can find a buyer.
Gatherers can also earn a substantial amount of Gil by harvesting base materials. This is a lucrative option, since these materials can be sold at dirt cheap prices. Similarly, some dungeons and raid boss chests yield a decent amount of Gil.
Treasure Hunting
There are a few quick and easy ways to make Gil in the game. The Challenge Log provides a steady stream of small amounts for doing dungeons, player commendations, and levequests.
Skysteel Scrips can be sold to the Market Board for a good amount of Gil as well. This is a good way for Miners, Botanists, and Fishers to make supplemental Gil and help offset the cost of teleportation.
Selling Topsoil on the market isn't very profitable at current prices, so I'd recommend only doing this when it makes sense based on your own goals and time. Remember, it's not the most efficient use of your time to put items on the market and watch them get undercut by other players.
Ventures
In addition to the usual suspects, FFXIV has a few different ways for players to make gil in the game. Currently, player housing plots are one of the best ways to earn gil in the game, provided it isn’t the housing clusterfuck that it has been of late.look here or visit our official store for the latest information on WOTLK Classic gold prices and promotions.
Another great gil maker is the Leves in Old Sharlayan, which can easily net players hundreds of thousands of Gil per week. However, you do have to be aware of the limitations that come with your Leve Allowances, which recharge at a rate of three every 12 real-world hours.
Lastly, the Duty Roulettes are a great source of gil for players who queue up with the correct role in mind. The amount of gil earned varies by server and type of Duty Roulette, but it is usually higher for tanks than other roles.
Class Quests
While there are a few small Gil sinks in the game like teleportation, the majority of players will make most of their money from Disciples of the Land and Hand (Miner, Botanist, Weaver, Alchemist) and Combat Jobs. They will use the Gil to level their crafters and gatherers and to purchase gear, items, consumables, etc.
The game offers a few other Gil sinks like the Challenge Log (running X random dungeons, completing X player commendations, and FATEs) but they are supplemental at best. Having large amounts of Gil in the game is a goal that can be worked towards and is useful for a variety of things in the game from porting around at will to stockpiling consumables or buying catchup gear for higher-end content.
