When Boerum Hill attorney Clover Barrett purchased 338 Atlantic Ave. about six years ago, it was a dilapidated disaster, a five-story structure full of rotting wood joists and beams.
But after years of aggressive renovation, Barrett has transformed the former antique store into her home,

It's a setup that allows Barrett access to

I wanted to create my own my world, and in order to create your own world you have to be captain of your own ship, said Barrett, 53.
The first part of her day is usually spent in court,
uggs outlet Doudoune Parajumpers Denali Parajumper, working on cases ranging from divorce to criminal matters. In the past, she has represented defendants charged in connection with the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the the Crown Heights riots of 20 years ago.
But since she opened Clover's Fine Art Gallery in 2009, Barrett's workday often ends there, where she chats up visitors and rents out space for events. The art gallery is the lighter side of me - the fun side of me, she said. It allows me to do what I don't do in my law practice.
I think I am first a lawyer, but my passion is equal with respect to the business of art, Barrett said.
The gallery is an elegant
Doudoune Parajumpers Angie cultural oasis located on the ground level of the building. It includes a homey cafe that sells coffee imported from Jamaica.
You know how you walk into an art gallery and it's dead and there's nobody in there? I wanted art to be more friendly, Barrett said.
The bare brick walls showcase pieces by emerging and established artists, who often have Caribbean roots.

In many ways, each aspect of the building is a separate, but linked, extension of Barrett - her interests, her passions, her investments.
My ownership of the building is a gift to myself because I could be getting rent for it, she said. But it is a gift to the arts and myself to set aside this space. I love people and I get to do it in both worlds.
