HOUSTON - The Red Bulls will have to find a way Wednesday to advance to its first conference final since 2008 without their best defender.
With New York leading 2-1, center back Jamison Olave was sent off in the 65th minute for a sliding challenge on Houston's Omar Cummings. He came from the side and took out Cummings' legs without getting a piece of the ball. Olave will be forced to sit out the return leg of the
Redskins Jersey semifinal at Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls are 0-3-2 without Olave this year.
Coach Mike Petke said the red card "killed us," but did not have a good view of the play.
"It was 50, 60 yards away from me," he said. "Obviously he went down on the ground, someone fell down on the other team, the ref was right there, so I'm assuming it was a red card."
Dax McCarty said the foul was "unnecessary" and "a clear red card."

Following the ejection, Markus Holgersson slid in from right back and Brandon Barklage came off the bench to play right back, substituting Jonny Steele. That is likely how the back line will look Wednesday.
