Food
Survival is impossible if you do not provide your body with the fuel it needs to continue. Fill your kit with items to keep you nourished for several weeks. MREs, camp-ready meals or any other compact and preserved foods are the best meal option. These last for years and require little space for storage.
Water
Bottled water is great, but it takes up room and is heavy to carry. For this reason water purifying kits can be a lifesaver. However, since drought conditions may be part of the emergency, always keep some water on hand until a reliable water source can be found.
Tools and Weapons
Items like knives and guns work for protection and tools. Knives will be used in a survival situation almost constantly and guns make it possible to hunt for food and protect camp. Other items to keep handy include cutting tools like axes and machetes, shovels and pliers.
First Aid Kit
An emergency situation will mean overcrowded or unavailable hospitals and clinics. If you are going to rely on yourself for everything, you need to remain as healthy as possible. Bandages and gauze, antibiotic ointments and tweezers are a start. Round out the kit with pain relievers, a snake-bite kit and a supply of any necessary prescription medications.
Camping Gear
Traditional camping gear from small tents to cook stoves are made to be portable, easy to set up and lightweight. These hardy items, available from the Survival Center, are not just necessities but are also items which can make survival much more comfortable.
Communication Equipment
Whether you want to contact a family member you or need to hear the latest news of the outside world, communication is key. A radio tuned to a news station may be your only warning of approaching hazards and two-way radios can be a lifeline to the world.
Power Supplies
Batteries will not last forever and cold or damp weather can shorten their life further. The Survival Center Gear and Supplies includes solar chargers to keep your communication equipment and lighting running endlessly.
All of this gear is worthless if you are not mentally prepared for an emergency situation. Each person in a survival group needs to be trained on basic survival in all environments, should be knowledgeable in first aid including CPR and know how to start a fire, build a temporary shelter and defend themselves.
