A long time ago, in the far away swinging Sixties, one of the grooviest decorative items was the rocket-like lava lamp with its mesmerizing, slow-moving liquid light show. The brand-new Jellyfish Cylinder Nano, which just concluded a successful run on Kickstarter and is now poised to appear in homes needing a bit of moody sea creature ambiance, reminds us of those space age lights. But this nano-sized aquarium holds live jellyfish, illuminated by LED lights that change the color of the graceful creatures.
Unlike in most regular aquariums, the water flow in the clear, acrylic, cylinder-shaped container mimics that of the ocean. Also, it’s a desktop model. After you order the aquarium kit and receive it, you can then request your new pets. The live jellyfish are shipped to your doorstep and transfer easily to live comfortably in room-temperature, oxygenated water kept healthy by an “integrated mechanical, chemical and biological filtration in an accessible, hidden compartment.” These types of jellies are translucent Moon Jellies – named so since they are reminiscent of a full moon. Keep in mind that, regardless of how beautiful they are to watch, especially when lit up in various colors, these are living critters that need to be cared for, even though they only live for 30 days.
The tank kit arrives with all you need, from jelly salt, nitrifying bacteria starter and remote control to LED, air pump, sponge filter and more. Its makers, Jellyfish Art, promise that the whole thing sets up in just ten minutes. You merely add water and your new pets and – voilà – you have living art. The Jellyfish Cylinder Nano Aquarium is available for pre-order.
