cost of subway franchise

  • Well, I'm not too happy with concept of having 47 million Americans on food stamps. I am bothered by the fact that the number of people on food stamps grows each and every day, and that inevitably makes people weak and unable to take care of themselves in our newly created nanny state. Not long ago the fast food industry had gotten together to lobby Congress because they wanted in on the food stamp deal.

    Consider if you will that if the government provides food stamps to only certain types of grocery stores, then people use those food stamps there and they stop spending money at other types of restaurants who are unable to take those food stamps. Also, many poor people don't have large grocery store chains in their area in urban poor areas. Therefore, about the only place they can buy food is at the liquor store, convenience in store, or at a fast food restaurant nearby.

    Now then, what's wrong with someone taking their family into Subway sandwiches, getting some kind of a deal, and allowing the kids to split a foot-long sub sandwich? If that submarine sandwich cost $4.99 and two kids split it, they can have dinner for about $2.50 each. That's a good price, and it will be healthy if they get a submarine sandwich. Of course, Subway also has meal deals which include soda pop, cookies, and other things that go against the whole concept of trying to prevent diabetes.

    Okay, but the reality is they can buy soda in the grocery store, chips, buttered popcorn, cookies, Pop Tarts, and all sorts of other things. I'd like to mention two other points;

    No Soda
    Modern Day Cash Registers

    You see, all the modern day cash registers used in all the fast food restaurants allow the operator to disallow certain types of transactions. For instance if you bring in a coupon, it will not give you the discount using that code number on certain items. Since all these fast food registers have this capacity, then if someone uses the food stamp swipe card, simply make it so they cannot buy soda or cookies if they go into Subway to eat for instance.

    And, it doesn't just have to be Subway either. Wendy's Hamburgers also has salads and food that is good for humans to eat, so too does McDonald's, and other restaurants. If someone wishes to buy a soda with their meal, they could pay for that with their own cash, but the food stamps program wouldn't allow it. We could solve this problem is all I am saying. It's not that I want the food stamp program to grow, I certainly don't, I don't believe in giving people fishes, I believe in teaching people to fish.
