Outside the court, his lawyer said the state must prove that the bullet that killed the teenager came from the gun of his client.
The case arose amid concerns in Kenya regarding the severity of the coronavirus restrictions.

On 30 March, Yasin was watching from the terrace at the governor's flat in Mathare, a poor neighborhood in the capital city of Nairobi, while police were investigating his mother's street. Khadija Abdullahi Hussein told the BBC Africa Eye.
'I got shot'
"After a few minutes I heard the sound of gunshots, so I told the children to lie down. I [then] noticed that Yasin fell from his chair.
"He told me: 'Mom, I have been shot.'"
Mr Ndiema was charged after an investigation by the country's independent regulatory authorities.
The police are currently detained and scheduled for bail hearing on Wednesday.
Earlier this month, BBC Africa Eye reported that there was a high level of anger at Mathare due to police treatment of the police.
Amnesty International Human Rights Group says at least seven people have been killed in parts of Kenya during the first five nights of the curfew.
