That means creating a food kit to go along with the disaster kit.Prepackaged Meals: These are great tools, but they can come with a hefty health tag. Most of them are high in sodium, fat and/or cholesterol. They need to be chosen with care, especially for those with medical conditions.Dry Foods: Beans, rice, pasta and other dried foods are great in a disaster kit. It's advised that you know how to prepare them... especially dry beans... in advance.
Being stuck with a bunch of ingredients you don't know what to do with is not a good idea.Canned Food: Fruits, vegetables and some meat and seafood are great to have in the kit. By reduced sodium and reduced sugar canned goods where possible. Beware of depending totally on canned seafood for protein; many contain mercury.Herbs and Spices: These are not luxuries; they have a purpose. Most of the herbs and spices used in cooking can help keep you healthy.
