Once you have purchased your custom made house signs ready to display on your pride and joy, you may be in a quandary as to how to attach your new house sign, especially if you are not a DIY expert. After carrying out some research I found that there are several methods you can choose from. It is worth considering this issue a little as you do not wish to run the risk of spoiling your beautiful new house signs.
This is the most commonly used method of fixing a house sign or house number and probably the simplest. There are however a couple of things that should be taken into account which you may not have considered. You must not use an ordinary screw as this will corrode very quickly, brass coated screws will eventually corrode and galvanised screws will rust if their coating is scratched which invariably it will be.
It is best to opt for either a solid brass screw or preferably a stainless steel screw. The other point to consider is that your very nice house sign comes crashing down and many materials such as stone, slate and marble will stain. So do not take the risk in not fitting the correct screw. House Sign built into wall Many houses have their signs built into their stone or brick walls, if you choose this option you must remember to tell your sign maker that you do not want your sign drilled. If your sign is going to be made from York Stone or Marble you need to make sure that clean washed sand is used to prevent staining.
The first problem with this option is that you cannot normally get hidden fixings unless your sign is 20mm or more thick and you must if your sign is suitable for hidden fixings when purchasing your house sign. Gluing your House Sign to a wall This is only an option for lighter House Signs but most modern house signs are actually quite suitable for using with adhesive. Just be sure to check if the adhesive is for external use. The adhesives that are available now are fantastic; you can use any of the silicon or gunned fixed types.
