Jesus has been variously envisioned as the incarnate and only Son of God, an enlightened master of the ancient mystery schools, an inspired but merely human teacher of love and brotherhood, or even a shrewd opportunist grabbing for political advantage by falsely donning the cloak of the Messiah. And the multitude of churches, cults, schools, and sects that claims Jesus as their source and inspiration is equally diverse and contradictory.
