In this era of technology, the main factor of information is the media. It yields a great power that no other means have. It has the power to communicate any news from one part of the world to another part within a few seconds. This mode of communication is working day and night to provide people with the latest news. So here we have described the power of media.
The general meaning of it is communication. It means it is a medium used to convey a message or news from one person to another. Media conveys information from one part to another. It plays an important role in our society. Our world has now become a global village due to it. We can get informed about any place in the world by any means of communication.
So as we know it is the largest means of communication. So, we should also be aware of the power it yields. It has tremendous power to inform the public about what it wants. It can be used for good purposes but on the other hand, it can also be used for the wrong purposes. Its main role is to provide legit information. It tells the public what is going in on in the world as well as informs us about politics and has also become a source of entertainment.
TYPES OF MEDIA
- Print media: It includes newspapers, magazines, etc. It is an effective method of communication as people read newspapers and get the view of experts they can also fill out the form to write their reviews.
- Social media or the internet: In today’s age, almost everyone from a kid to an adult are using social media platforms. These might include Facebook, Instagram, browsers Wikipedia, etc. So, it also is a source of the great power of media. It is very effective as provides us the facility to read, share our own opinions, watch the news, or even listen to it. It is a broad field and is most widely used all across the world.
- Broadcast media: It includes television, radio, etc. Communication through television is very effective too because you can visually see what is going on. It is also entertaining. It can show you the exact news visually while on the radio you listen to the news. It is also helpful as some public don’t have enough time to sit and watch television so they can listen to it while doing their work. They work as well as will be getting informed by the latest news.
- Outdoor media: It includes the method of advertising using billboards, wallscapes, and posters. When we are driving we often see such billboards. They are also very effective as they have a broad range.
Some advantages are:
- It educates people. Provide them with the latest news.
- It lets people know the circumstances in the world
- It is a source of entertainment
- You can talk to millions of people at once using it
- People can display their talent and skills
While on the other hand, it has disadvantages as well:
- The content might not be appropriate for kids
- We can’t restrict kids to watch inappropriate things
- People waste a lot of time on it, especially on social platforms
- It gives rise to laziness
- It also reduces confidence in people
- Wrong news can lead people to the wrong paths
