6 Simple Steps to Write a Good Academic Assignment

  • 25 de fevereiro de 2020

Writing an assignment is no easy task especially if it’s your first in college or university. Think about writing an assignment as convincing your father that you qualify to be his son and the process will be easier.

But even though it’s no easy task, students will have to put in the time and effort to stand out from the rest of the class.

A good academic assignment follows a step by step process; from writing a strong thesis statement to framing the body paragraphs to writing a conclusion that leaves a lasting impression on the reader. There is quite a lot of effort needed.

If you are wondering how to write a good academic assignment, this article is for you.

Here, you will learn easy steps to make your assignment writing process smooth and hassle-free. It’s my latest blog post that I tend to help new and existing students who are looking to write great academic assignments that get higher grades.

    Let’s dive right inside.

    1.     Read the Assignment Requirements and Guidelines Carefully

First of all, you should read the instructions and assignment guidelines provided by the instructor carefully.

Read and understand what the assignment is required to accomplish. Check how much the assignment is worth, the scope of the topic, and the rules you should follow.

Understand the assignment formatting, the citation style required, and layout.

You can always ask your instructor in case you need clarification on anything you don’t understand.

    2.     Research

To prepare you early, let me tell you that you are going to find bajillions of information and resources out there. However, you should pick only what is relevant to your topic.

As you research the topic, authenticate the sources critically and pick the credible, well-sourced, and current ones.

Your institution’s library is a good place to get up-to-date information for your academic assignment. If you research on the internet, always choose information published on scholarly platforms like reputed institutions, government organizations and credible journals.

    3.     Draft a Good Outline

Once you have researched the topic, you can start writing the assignment. But before you start writing it, you need to draft an outline.

Usually, an outline will act as a roadmap for your paper. This is where you organize your ideas and thoughts in a comprehensive manner.

You start by writing the main idea followed by the sub-ideas. The idea of creating an outline is so that you stay on track as you writing the assignment.

    4.     Gather Information

Information gathering is the most important step of assignment writing. Here, you are required to collect all information relevant to the subject of the assignment that will help you compile an effective paper.

Use all the available resources and materials both offline and online to gather as much needed information as possible for your assignment.

    5.     Start Writing

Bring the information you have collected together to make a complete paper. You will use the outline you created in step #3 to write the assignment from the introduction to the conclusion.

    6.     Edit and Proofread

This is the last step after writing your assignment. As you write the assignment, you may have skipped something, added unrelated concepts or gone too overboard.

This is the polishing stage where you read the assignment and take out what’s not to be included or include what was skipped. Read your assignment carefully and thoroughly to make sure that spelling and language structure is as required.

    Final Word

Before you submit your assignment, make sure it is free from errors, everything is readable, and the language is easy to understand. It’s that simple.
