Depois de acertar com precisão o adiamento do evento da Microsoft para o anúncio do próximo console da empresa, passando de 24 de abril para 21 de maio, Paul Thurrott publicou novas informações (rumores) sobre o Xbox 720 no seu blog WindowsITPro. Os dados revelados que apresentam maior relevância são a data de lançamento do console estar marcada para o início de novembro de 2013 e o fato de haver dois modelos disponíveis, cada um por um preço.
Por US$ 499, seria possível comprar o video game sozinho, enquanto o valor reduzido de US$ 299 obrigaria o jogador a pagar a mensalidade da Xbox LIVE Gold (US$ 10) durante o período de dois anos – totalizando um investimento de US$ 539 (equivalente a R$ 1.080, sem impostos nem frete). Além do anúncio em 21 de maio, a empresa divulgaria a sua linha de jogos para o lançamento do console durante a E3. Por fim, os estúdios envolvidos seriam listados durante a conferência Build, em São Francisco, no final de junho.
Outros rumores levantados por Thurrott incluem: o sistema operacional do Xbox 720 teria como base o Windows 8, provavelmente permitindo a execução de apps do SO no console; não haverá, por enquanto, um modelo que não rode jogos, tendo apenas capacidades multimídia; o aparelho terá leitor de Blu-ray; e, além disso, seria lançada uma terceira geração do Xbox 360, codinome Stingray, que contaria com um preço mais em conta (provavelmente pelo fato de não haver retrocompatibilidade no novo console em relação aos antigos).
