For fans of this 17-year old browser-based MMORPG, this is comparable to the end of an era; RuneScape was among the pioneers in the online fantasy niche, sitting amongst EverQuest and Asheron's Call; it frees players right to some medieval realm, let them transform into an avatar of their decision, and embark on a non-linear adventure full of questing, PvP combat, and of course, an enviable chatroom. However from August 6th at 3AM ET, Runescape Classic will evaporate into the digital ether. Jagex clarified that its resources simply aren't compatible with Vintage any OSRS gold:
"It has been amazing to see such devotion amongst those of you who've kept playing RuneScape Classic over the past couple of years," Jagex's farewell post states,"But it is not all fun and games" Apparently, botting had become a significant issue and a growing list of game-breaking bugs were proving too difficult to eradicate.
Plus it seems old habits die hard. In 2013, RuneScape reached a 2 million accounts milestone. The match naturally evolved since its first release -- with major upgrades in 2004 and 2013 -- yet players were still enthralled by retro sensibilities: a survey of 160,000 fans caused the restoration of hosts that were old, and this also leaves Jagex's announcement even more bittersweet.
The good news -- since there is always a bright side to all -- is that RuneScape Classic servers continue to be online right now, and Gielindor's doors will remain open for the next 3 months.
Runescape creator Jagex has raised £225,000 ($305,000) over the past year to help encourage cheap Runescape gold mental health charities CPSL Mind, The Prince's Trust, and YMCA Right Here. The studio was working together with three associations on a local, national, and global level to try and influence change and encourage young people struggling with psychological health.
