What do you get if you send an Alfa 8C and a heap of cash to famed Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera? A stunning Alfa Romeo Disco Volante, that's what.
Alfa Romeo is showing its very limited edition Disco Volante at Geneva 2013. This is the road worthy version of the concept we saw at Geneva last year and thankfully; very little has changed. Milan based Touring Superleggera will build you one to order at a price on application. And don't forget you need to supply a donor car -- an achingly beautiful and rare Alfa 8C... Each once is said to take 4000 man hours to build and inspiration for its pretty --mostly hand beaten aluminium - shape came from the 1952 Alfa C52 Disco Volante. The Alfa 8C's chassis, thumping 444bhp 4.7-litre V8 and major hard points have carried over unchanged so expect it to shuffle to 62mph from standstill in 4.2seconds and reach 181mph-ish. For your money you get a luxuriously appointed leather and Alcantara cabin. As you'd rightfully expect.
We like the Disco Volante lots -- we like its movie star name lots more -- but we're not sure we could come to terms with sacrificing such a wonderful thing as the Alfa 8C to have one...
