The rumours were true and the new Porsche 911 GT3 is PDK only. Not to worry; it still offers unique rear-engined leeryness and bonkers performance.
Porsche has unveiled its all new 991 GT3 at Geneva 2013. Yes, we too are disappointed the sharpest non RS 991 doesn't allow you the simple joy of swapping cogs with a stick and three pedals. So it's controversial but we must not loose sight that this is a very special car indeed. It's a lighter, sharper, faster, track focussed version of the latest 911. It's 3.6-lighter direct injection flat-six is 25kg lighter than the previous generation GT3's and pumps out a healthy 468bhp and 325 lb ft -- up from the 429bhp and 317lb ft in the old car. It will drag from standstill to 60mph in 3.5 seconds and hit 196mph. It looks the part to with deeper splitters, a track inspired rear wing and beautiful single locking nut alloys. Four-wheel steering is a new addition to GT3 range but added to optional ceramic brakes and the Clubsport pack (half roll-cage, harness seatbelts, fire extinguisher, battery cut off switch) it all helps to create a sharper drive on track.
At just over £100, 000 it will no doubt continue to be the rich track day goer's weapon of choice. And yes it does have a Nurburgring laptime already under its belt; 7 minutes 30 seconds...
