A few things to remember when doing push ups:
hands are positioned directly under the shoulder, abdominals are always engaged and your hips are not dropping low or peaking up high.
Maintain the straightest plank like position that you can before beginning the exercise. Modified pushups on your knees are an excellent option and always encouraged if you feel any discomfort when doing regular pushups.
This is all about making your own progress. A lot of these pushups vary simply by switching the placement of the hands—have fun!!
