'Moses and the Exodus'
Moses was born about 1500 BC. He was chosen to lead Israel out of slavery and give them the laws of God. When the Book of Exodus begins, the Hebrews lived in Egypt, and over time they grew in number and the new Pharaoh who knew not Joseph enslaved the Hebrews, with bitter slavery. The Hebrew slaves, over time, began to reproduce so rapidly that the king felt threatened by a potential revolt against his authority. So he gave orders that no more Hebrew male child could live. To save the little Moses, his mother made a basket of papyrus, and waterproofed with asphalt and tar. She put Moses in the basket, and left him and floating among the reeds on the banks of the Nile River.
By God's providence, Moses - the son of Hebrew slaves - was found and adopted by the Egyptian princess, the daughter of Pharaoh, being created in the royal palace as a prince of Egypt: "And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds "(Acts 7:22). At the same time, the Lord determined that Moses should be taught in their childhood, by his own mother. This means that he was instructed in the faith of their fathers, although reared as an Egyptian (Exodus 2: 1-10)..
Moses was educated in the most advanced civilization of that time. His training was designed to prepare him for high office, or even the throne of Egypt. He became familiar with life in Pharaoh's court, with all the pomp and grandeur of Egyptian religious worship. He was educated in the writing and the literature of his time. He witnessed the administration and justice. When she was 40, Moses indginou with an Egyptian taskmaster who was beating a Hebrew slave; and he killed the Egyptian and buried him in the sand (Ex. 2:12). When this became known, he feared for his life and fled from Egypt into the desert land of Midian, where he married a daughter of Jethro, then going to tend flocks of Jethro.
After about 40 years, God spoke to Moses from a burning bush, but not consumed. God sent Moses back to Egypt to lead the Hebrews out of slavery, to the land promised to Abraham. God demonstrated His power to Moses and He revealed His Holy Name "YHWH" or "Yahweh" (Jehovah became a popular pronunciation in the 16th century by German translators, although there is no sound for the "J" in Hebrew).
