I decided to share my subjective experience regarding operating systems.
So, let's make a comparison and determine the pros and cons of the Windows, Mac OS, and Linux operating systems.
Windows
I work with her a lot. Very good OS. The tenth version has become even more stable and reliable.
Windows Pros:
- Stable and reliable. Freezing programs do not hang the system like before. System applications have high priority and therefore always respond, even if something goes wrong.
- It is easy to set up and has good support for connected devices compared to other operating systems. You connect the new device and the system quickly updates the drivers from the Microsoft server and installs them without any questions or difficulties. You don't have to worry about compatibility with 80% of devices.
- The best non-console platform for games! Games are often released on PC and much less often on Linux and Mac OS.
Cons of Windows:
- Lots of viruses. Antivirus purchase is required. Install Windows - install antivirus. Only when I bought the antivirus did I truly relax and feel safe. A weight fell off my shoulders and I stopped searching for keys on pirate sites for a long time. Compared to other systems, there is always a threat of infection in Windows.
- Disk clutter. I don't have enough 120 GB SSD for the system drive. 2-3 GB remains free. I constantly clear caches. I try to keep software and games on a separate disk.
- The interface is still in a state of transition from old windows to windows in a new design. Not a logical interface. MS does not strive for logic and uniformity of the interface.
- User tracking. The system monitors the user and sends data to Microsoft. This is unpleasant and a threat to personal safety.
- A subscription with payment for updates is being gradually introduced.
MacOS
Mac is attractive primarily from a hardware point of view. Very good displays, ergonomic and high-quality execution. First of all, these devices are aimed at designers and video editors.
Pros of MacOS:
- Stable, beautiful, concise and thoughtful compared to Windows.
- Software installation is simplified to the maximum - usually it is enough to transfer the program from the media to the list of programs.
- There are few viruses, and those that exist are limited in capabilities. If information about vulnerabilities appears, they are quickly covered by fixes.
- There is built-in office software (this is not relevant, since all additional software is gradually moving to the web).
- You can run some Windows applications through Wine.
- Optimized for native hardware.
Cons of MacOS:
- Limitations of the system. Because Much of the system is simplified - there is no flexibility in settings.
- Problems with hardware support. Not all equipment may be compatible. There may be difficulties installing drivers.
- Sometimes installing software goes beyond moving an icon to the program list. There may be sh scripts with launch and operation that may have problems.
- To write to NTFS disks, you need to install additional drivers.
- To install on non-native hardware you will have to spend a lot of time. A reinstallation will be required to install the new version of the operating system.
Linux
Working in this system is greatly simplified after Canonical decided to implement SNAP. It is possible to connect Flatpak. These solutions should bring the system closer to the MacOS level in terms of ease of software installation. (the essence of these solutions is to store all dependent libraries and files in the installer at once, which eliminates the problem of resolving dependencies, not matching the versions of the required versions of libraries and the versions of libraries in the system, and also implements isolation of the software from the system).
Linux is very stable.
Gnome 3 is more beautiful than Mac OS!!! When I ended my Mac OS session and booted into Ubuntu, I was amazed at how much nicer and beautiful the environment in Ubuntu was. Compared to GNOME 3, Apple's design looks outdated.
Sometimes the system needs to be adjusted to suit you
