Increasing screen time and its effects on eyes

  • We are admirers of faces and figures. As much as we notice how the other person looks, we also take care of how we look and no doubt, put a lot of extra effort into getting that perfect body shape or having that beauty or the glow on the face. And there is nothing wrong with that. After all, what's better than taking care of our bodies?

Now think about the same for your eyes. How many of us usually take care of our eye health? What measures do we take to keep our eyes in the right shape? Honestly, we have never given such a prominent thought of what our eyes are going through every day nor have we tried to look into our eye health.

With the advancement of technology and digitalization and the increasing use of screens and electronic devices, maintaining good eye health is no cakewalk. With more than half our time spent on our laptops, desktop or mobile screens, we cannot expect our eyes to remain in good space. This leads to many eye disorders which we might not even know of and early lenses or spectacles.

More than 50 percent of people working in front of screens or using too much mobile experience the condition of digital eye strain in which the person goes through itchy eyes, redness in the eyes, dry eyes, headache, fatigue, etc.

Typically, as we age, we experience a lack of eye focus but too much screen time causes it to happen early, impacting our ability to adjust our eyes according to different distances. Also, too much screen time can affect your sleep as well.

How can you protect your eyes?

Now if you think that you have suffered a major eye loss and there's no going back, then hold on. It is completely possible to retrieve your eye health back in good shape and protect your eyes from the upcoming damages.

    • Keep giving breaks to your eyes

With so much screen time and the use of mobiles and other gadgets, your eyes must take small breaks in between. The 20-20-20 rule would help in that. Take a break every 20 minutes and look at an object 20 feet away for not more than 20 seconds.

    • Using blue light filters

A blue light filter can reduce the amount of blue light emitted from the screen and does not allow it to reach your eyes. Thus, your eyes do not feel irritation and pain and also do not feel tired.

    • Annual eye exam

Many of us do not know the importance and need of an eye exam, especially in this digital era. It is possible that you might not realize but a simple small-scale problem in your eye would turn out to be a major eye disorder. To prevent this, you need to know and understand the condition of your eyes which is checked by your doctor through an eye exam.

    • Take care of your diet

Eating healthy and nutritious food is as important for your eyes as it is for your health. Incorporating more Vitamin A, Vitamin E, proteins, and minerals in the diet would help restore the lost vision for your eyes.

    • Using Eye drops

This is one of the most favorable clinical approaches to cure deteriorating eye conditions. These are used to treat many eye problems, majorly the condition of glaucoma which means increased pressure inside the eyes.

Careprost, manufactured by Sun Pharma, is one of the most trusted eye care drops used by many people all over the world to treat their eye problems, majorly glaucoma. The active salt component in Careprost is 0.03% Bimatoprost.

    Action mechanism of Careprost

There is a naturally occurring fluid substance in our eyes which maintains the normal eye pressure by continuously forming new liquid and draining extra liquid from the eyes. When there is no drainage of the extra liquid which is important to leave the eyes, the pressure inside the eyes increases causing pain, irritation, and discomfort. Careprost Eye Drops enhances the outflow of this liquid from the eye and reduces the eye pressure thus relieving the pain.

How to apply Careprost in eyes?

Careprost is a medically prescribed eye drop and it is strictly advised to apply it as instructed by the doctor. After instilling the drop of Careprost in your eyes, close your eyes for 2-3 minutes and do not blink or squeeze. Make sure you do not touch your eyes with the dropper and use a clean dropper. Wipe off any extra liquid from your face. Do not overdose on the medicine and if by chance you do, rinse your eyes with clean water immediately. Also, in case you miss the dosage, you can apply the drop when you remember but make sure not to have multiple doses as it can cause side effects.
