Bar code technology and RFID technology are known as item ID cards in the era of the Internet of things, because they can be used to store the information of items and represent the identity of items to a certain extent. However, RFID stores more information as the unique identification of items.
A bar code is a graphic identifier that arranges a plurality of black bars and blanks with different widths according to certain coding rules to express a group of information. A common bar code is a parallel line pattern formed by black bars (bar for short) and white bars (empty for short) with large reflectivity difference; RFID is a non-contact data communication technology between reader and tag to achieve the identification target. In addition, there are many differences between the two:
RFID electronic tag
1. The barcode does not have the function of reading and writing. No information can be added to the printed barcode, and the RFID tag manufacturer can be read and written; RFID readers can exchange information with tags and modify the stored information within the allowable range of tag design.
2. The barcode reader needs to read the printed barcode in close alignment, and the barcode only supports close reading; RFID can support longer distance reading, and RFID readers do not need to read active RFID tag manufacturer or passive RFID tags in close alignment
3. The bar code is easily worn; RFID tag manufacturer(click it) are more durable than bar codes, but RFID tags are also much more expensive than bar codes
4. RFID carries electronic information, and its data content can be protected by encryption technology, so that its content is not easy to be forged, while the barcode is exposed physical information, and the general coding rules are mostly adopted, so the data security cannot be guaranteed
5. The barcode scanning frequency is limited. Only one barcode can be scanned at a time. The RFID reader / writer can identify multiple electronic tags at the same time
6. The barcode scanner can recognize the barcode only when it is close and there is no object blocking; RFID can penetrate non-metallic or non transparent materials such as paper and wood, and can conduct penetrating communication.
