Johnson didn’t post flashy numbers but he has great traits as a receiver. The 2-star prospect from Lakewood, Colorado accepted the scholarship offered to him by Colorado state over offers extended to him by Army and Northern Colorado. Bisi was overshadowed by guys like Michael Gallup and Preston Williams the past couple of seasons but he may be well regarded in scouting circles because of his natural ability at the position. He got to the national stage when he received a Combine invite and posted impressive test numbers. Still Johnson will have to prove he can at least keep up the volume he posted in college. He has some special teams experience as a kick and punt returner but wasn’t very good so he’ll have to also make his way on special teams as a coverage man. Still Johnson is an intruding late round option at receiver who could surprise as a contributor at the next level.StrengthsGood size, quickness, and athleticism for the position.Johnson wins with his short area quickness and crisp routes. He runs them with precision and understand the nuance of selling his defender. He is especially effective at comeback routes where he can create separation at the top.Natural reliable hands that can haul in passes at a variety of catch points. Looks passes in completely and is more advanced than some of his peers in this area. Team player who has experience returning kicks and is a willing blocker.Has experience playing outside and inside.WeaknessesInconsistent play speed doesn’t match his test numbers. Not much of a threat after the catch on the run because he goes down easy. Ran a simple route tree at CSU and will have to show he can handle the more complex stuff.Doesn’t have that second gear to really challenge vertically.Let’s see his work:More Olabisi Johnson videosHow He Would Fit On The RedskinsJohnson is this year’s Ryan Grant or Trey Quinn. I guarantee Jay Gruden has come up with all sorts of interesting colloquialisms and praise for Johnson in the film room. He isn’t flashy
Bryce Love Jersey 2019 , he isn’t a physical specimen, he’s just a guy that can run really good routes and catch the ball really well. I’m sure there is a spot for him on this team as long as Gruden is the coach. For what its worth I think Johnson could have a really nice season or two in his career in the right offense. I don’t think the Redskins offense conceptually is bad for him at all. Gruden loves those short comeback routes on the outside. He could be a surprise relatively soon in his career if he could work his way into the receiver rotation. The type of routes he’s good at are the exact type of thing Gruden (or O’Connell?) are going to implement to help out a new QB in the offense. Keenum is much better when he’s throwing the short stuff too. Also, it’s not like Johnson is slow. If he’s given the right look he can be a threat with the intermediate stuff as well. I think Johnson will be exposed to more variety of routes in the NFL and that he’ll handle that learning curve fine. I could see him having a nice contributing role like Chester Rogers in this offense.
