German and English share an alphabet because they are Germanic languages. All other letters are pronounced as a, ü, ö, ß, with the exception of ä, ü, ö, ß. When it comes to German, it's easy to pronounce (compared to Dutch, for example), and you basically read what you see. There has been a suggestion to me that your native language may determine how easy it is to say, German. I believe that this should not be an issue for most Europeans, Americans, etc.
